The Leprechaun Practice System started as a labor of love.
I love teaching, and I love games! Not only do they make kids’ eyes light up, but they help me reach them more effectively with what I am trying to teach.
So few years ago I took out some colored cards and made a new game.
I was looking for a way to give beginning students three things:
PLAY - A game environment that felt exploratory
VISUAL - Something colorful and easy on the eyes
CONTROL - They choose what to do next
I realized how fun it would be if students could choose how to get to the “end of the rainbow” and imagine that waiting there is a Pot of Gold.
Thus the Leprechaun was born. A symbol of good luck and playful energy, this was the right image for a young child.
As I tried and tested it lesson after lesson, I noticed another feature of the game: it was a format I could adjust to each student individually. What is more, it provided a structure to the lessons, often when I needed something to fall back on.
What a fun and satisfying way to learn the violin, AND it focuses on some of the most important technical skills a beginner can learn.
